Day Trips

Taking day trips with your significant other can be a lot of fun and a good way to  just get away from everything that is stressing you out about your everyday life. Just last week my boyfriend, Jay, and I took a day trip down to Robber’s Cave State Park in Wilburton, Oklahoma. The park is about three hours from where we live in Stillwater, Oklahoma so it was almost perfect for a day trip. Jay’s parents had come up from Dallas, Texas to go horseback riding at the park so we thought it would be a good idea to go meet them there.

Jay drove because his Jeep uses less gas than my truck. We brought two different GPS with us because the one on my phone isn’t always completely reliable. (It likes to lose signal at very critical moments.) But even with our two GPS we still got a little lost. It can be difficult when you come across construction that closes entire highways, especially when it is the highway that you need to take.

The best thing that you can do in those situations, if you are the navigator, is to be clear about where you want the driver to go because it can be very frustrating for the driver if you go back and forth, especially if you are traveling with your significant other. Sometimes day trips can become more stressful than just staying at home if you don’t keep the right attitude. But I think it helps if you bring along an Ipod with an awesome upbeat playlist.

After about four hours, we finally got to our destination and the long drive was totally worth it. The park was beautiful and Jay’s parents were really happy to see him. We got to ride a couple of the horses that his parents brought up with them up to the top of a big hill. The view was absolutely stunning and I would love to do it again. The park has a camp site for people with horses that includes pins for the horses to stay in and room for large trailers. Plus, you can rent fire pits, which are a lot of fun to roast marshmallows on.

Next time your considering taking a trip, do a Google search for local places in your state. You can save a lot of money and they can be a lot of fun.

  1. Indeed, I found this trip to be most enjoyable. One of our more interesting endeavors. It was definitely an enjoyable trip that I would be most delighted to take again.
